Now that the My Green Life Project is almost over, I have learned many things: Water is an important resource in San Diego, producing beef is rapidly draining our water supply, and our environment is in danger of being destroyed due to the impacts that human beings are making upon it. I wished that we could have focused on a biological aspect of it instead of so much English because we could have been reading other books, poems, etc. I'm actually really relieved that the project is over because it' been a pain at times.

Blog 11: Discuss your environmental project for biology. How does it relate to MyGreenLife.5/10/2012 My biology project is about food borne illnesses and outbreaks of bacteria and viruses in the food that the country consumes such as outbreaks of salmonella or e.coli. It relates to the MyGreenLife project because of the similar topics about living a healthy life. This food borne illness project encourages the consumption of local, organic foods, because there is less of a chance for an outbreak to happen there. Organic and local foods are healthier so that aspect correlates with the MyGreenLife activity.

I had a score of 1266 out of 1981. I wasn't really surprised with my results due to the fact that there are only two people, including myself living in my household. I don't really eat beef at home because my diet would be more fish based. My home was recently remodeled so all of the sinks, toilets, and showerheads are all new. This is related to the My Green Life Project because it has to do with the environment and preserving it. The less water we use, the better. http://www.dosomething.org/tipsandtools/why-buy-locally-grown
I didn't notice before, but I do live by a farmers market. There are a lot of farmers markets in the southwest compared to all of the other places, it probably has to do with the fact that those places have better soil for farm land and space to do so. Or they could have been grown elsewhere but brought to one place because of the higher population... It could be both I guess... I posted that I had changed my choice in food. I am more aware of what I'm eating and choose not to comsume as much meat as before.
On both field trips we collected data and waypoints. We explored the area as well. I felt like I connected with the Dana Point field trip more because I got to see so much more wildlife and learned more about the area than in Tecolote canyon.
In the next ten years, in the United States, about half of the population would probably be overwieght. People are getting lazier and eat to much... The U.S needs to cut down on the fast food places, but the people themselves need to be able to make a healthier choice.
The great tablecloth shows how the lack of money ties into the lack of food, so low income has less access to food. The author of the poem wanted everyone to be equal (communism) which led him to be exiled due to his beliefs.
